For homes, rooftop solar typically costs about ₹55,000–₹65,000 per kW before subsidy. A 3 kW system is roughly ₹1.7–1.9 lakh, or about ₹0.73–0.88 lakh after the ₹78,000 + ₹22,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy. The exact price depends on your roof and structure.
Who is eligible for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy in Tamil Nadu?
Residential electricity consumers of TNPDCL (formerly TANGEDCO) with a suitable roof who have not already availed a rooftop solar subsidy. Housing societies can claim ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities.
Is net metering available in Tamil Nadu?
Yes. Domestic rooftop solar systems in Tamil Nadu can be connected with a net meter so surplus units are adjusted against your consumption. We file the application with TNPDCL for you.
How many ACs can a 3 kW solar system run in Tamil Nadu?
A 3 kW system generates about 12 units a day in Tamil Nadu. A 1.5-ton inverter AC uses roughly 1–1.5 units an hour, so 3 kW can offset one AC for around 8–10 hours a day, with net metering balancing day and night use.
